"The worst minutes of the day are indubitably those following my awakening. I wake up, confusedly believing you are here, only to have reality shattered on me as I realize the truth in my weakened state of mind. It’s like walking up the stairs in the belief that there are 14 steps instead of 13, and having your foot pound down a distance that feels miles more than reality. Even this slight stumble on the stairs makes my heart queasy. However, when it is your disappearance disqualifying my hope, the hurt lasts for an entire day.
